Shinhuey (pronounced Shin Whey) was born and raised in Taiwan. She holds an MBA degree from Purdue University, Indiana, USA. Former project manager in the high-tech industry, Shinhuey started painting in her thirties and fell in love.
With more than 10 years of experience, Shinhuey is known for creating striking portraiture, including a commissioned portrait of Mrs. Kamla Persad-Bissessar, former Prime Minister of Trinidad & Tobago. Shinhuey is also an active plein air painter. She was the two-time winner of the international paint-out competitions at Plein Air Curacao 2019 and 2017.
"For some people, art seems to be part of their genes from the beginning. Not for me. I wasn’t born with a talent for painting or drawing. Yes, I liked making crafts, such as cross-stitch Hello Kitty or friendship bracelets, as most little girls did. I was also trained in Chinese calligraphy at a young age. However, drawing and painting did not come into my life until I reached 30 years of age.
I was born and raised in Taiwan. After university, I headed to USA to continue my study and later worked for a high-tech company in Silicon Valley. While working as a project manager, I started taking drawing classes to cool off my brain after work. As much as I enjoyed drawing and painting, I never thought that one day I would be doing it for a living.
Fast forward a few years, I moved to Trinidad with my husband and we had two adorable children. When my babies were asleep, I would take out my paints and brushes (or pencils and pastels) and let my hands and mind run free. Shortly after, I found myself participating in group shows. Thanks to my very supportive clients, my paintings started to sell in local galleries and online. As our children grew, my studio also grew from occupying a small corner of the kitchen to a self-contained studio room. I am very thankful for the love and support from my local community. Without it, I wouldn't even have thought about exhibiting in group shows or art galleries. One thing led to another. I had the honor of painting a commissioned portrait of Kamla Persad-Bissessar, the Prime Minister at the time, in 2014.
While having no formal art education, I feel very fortunate to have learnt from masters such as Scott Burdick and Susan Lyon. Many thanks to Chris Di Domizio, my art instructor in Atlanta, for encouraging me to pursue art. I am grateful to my friends and family who helped and encouraged me along the way. I feel so blessed to be able to do what I love everyday.
Over the years, I explored and experimented with different subject matters and styles. At the moment, I am mostly inspired by roses and other flowers that surround me."

"Shinhuey draws from a deep well of creative and technical talent in her expression. Several of her pieces adorn my home and I continue to follow her work closely. We are enriched to have her as part of the art community in Trinidad and Tobago."
- Dr. Nilash Ramnarine, Wholistic Health Practitioner
"Shinhuey has the most delicate touch. Three green limes in a small pottery bowl glow with freshness. Your eye is pulled inwards to the bright orange interior of the bowl and out again to the soft pastel green of the background."
- Bunty O'Connor, Ceramist
"I have one of Shinhuey's paintings. It makes me happy every day."
- Roslyn Carrington, Writer/Editor
"Artist Shinhuey Ho approaches the art of painting with an eye for color and movement. Shinhuey's powerfully expressive work reveals an inner joy for life -- a sense of joy that she graciously shares with viewers. Her bold, painterly style captures the beauty of precious moments."
- Brian Sherwin, Art Critic
